QIDI X-Plus 3 3D Printer Maintenance

It is very necessary that we perform regular maintenance for our 3d printers. This has two benefits.

  1. Improve the performance of the machine.
  2. Extend the life of the machine.

We can start with the following aspects.

Hotend & Nozzle

During a long period of use, our hotend&nozzle may have various failures, at this time we need to replace them, we can learn how to replace them from the video linked below.

Nozzle: Replacement video

  • Reference torques
It is recommended to twist after heating: 1.5-2.5 N·m

Warning

When you replace the nozzle of the printer, it’s necessary to keep the recommended temperature of the nozzle for the corresponding filament. Also, you must put on thermal gloves to prevent burn.

Z-axis Lead Screws

The z-axis lead screws should be checked and greased every three months. If the printer is used frequently, once a month is ok. The first step before greasing the z-axis lead screws would be to clean them of any dust or plastic particles. The next step is to use lubricating grease and apply a thin coat over the lead screws. With the bed homed, apply a thin coat of lubricating grease then move the bed to a lower position. Apply another thin coat of grease on the z-axis lead screws and home the printer again. You can repeat the movement process a few times, to ensure the grease is evenly spread out over the z-axis lead screws. When complete, simply clean out any excess grease that builds up close to the leadscrew nuts.

X/Y Axis Linear Shafts

Regular cleaning: Keep the steel linear shaft clean and free from dust, dirt, and debris. Wipe it down using a soft cloth or brush to remove any accumulated particles. This prevents abrasion and maintains smooth operation.

Lubrication: Apply a suitable lubricant to the steel linear shaft to reduce friction and wear. Choose a lubricant specifically designed for linear motion applications(a simple light oil such as “3-in-1 oil” or sewing machine oil).

Protection against contaminants: Take precautions to protect the steel linear shaft from contaminants such as moisture, dust, and chemicals.

Fan

There are four fans that should be regularly checked for any dust and debris build-up. The nozzle fan, model cooling turbo fan, circulation fan, and bottom fan. They should be regularly checked for debris or dust buildup to ensure a smooth operation and long life. With the printer off, we recommend using a can of compressed air. While keeping the fan blades in place, use the compressed air to blow air over the blades and clean any dust or debris.
