Minix Neo U9-H is a new Chinese Mini PC, a model of which it Minix did not have clear ideas so that the right to modify some specific here and there in its technical details before the official announcement. We have had the opportunity to watch a preview, closely study design and components, while being aware that it is still a “work in progress project”. And what little we saw we like: Minix Neo U9-H is the first Mini PC to support video HDR Dolby Vision, VP9 and HDR10 (High Dynamic Range) with full resolution 4K Ultra HD @ 60 Hz.
And it’s all about the processor, one of the components on which Minix has no doubt: the SoC Amlogic S912-H is an octa-core ARM Cortex-A53 64-bit 2 GHz with Mali-T820MP3 GPU , the only one who today can ensure high-level multimedia performance but at the same time a very low selling price. At his side, if the company does not change his mind, we should find 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage on eMMC 5.0 memory (MLC).
On the sides of the frame, always in black plastic, the Chinese company has integrated three USB ports (on the right), S / PDIF, Kensington Lock, 3.5 mm audio jack, microSD card slot to expand storage up to 64GB, a micro USB port and a HDMI 2.0 (HDCP 2.2) for the video 4K @ 60Hz support. The showy antenna on the back, also reminds us of the presence of a moduleWiFi 802.11ac dual-band 2×2 MIMO (much more stable and faster), flanked by the Bluetooth 4.1 module and the Gigabit Ethernet. In practice Minix Neo U9-H is identical to the Minix Neo U1 , except for the installed processor.
As for the operating system, the new Mini PC Minix will run on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow , but will be updated to Android 7.0 Nougat thanks to an SDK developed by Amlogic, and will use the Kodi application for media playback. The Chinese company is also working on the front of the DRM, since those Android already supported will be added probably also those of Microsoft. At the moment we do not know the price, but we know that Minix Neo U9-H will be available on the market around the month of November .
