Newest XBMC for Minix NEO X8-H True 4K,1080P Video Hardware Decoding in XBMC

Minix just send me this XBMC version to test, I have been told the 4K and 1080p video playback is fully supported in XBMC hardware decoding.

I have tried this new xbmc version in the neo x8-h, here is the difference compare with the old built-in xbmc version:

If you use the old built-in xbmc version,i set the TV resolution to 4K, and set the resolution on NEO X8-H to 4K SMPTE,  and then open the XBMC, play the 4k demo video, i get this on my tv:

and then i uninstall the old XBMC and install the new version xbmc, do the same settings, and here is the same video in XBMC, i get this:

so now you can see the difference, the new xbmc apk really solve the problems!! Good Job! Minix.

Download the new xbmc version here:

Enjoy!

  1. 4k is indeed nice but unfortunatly, no clear comment comment about 24p/23,976fps, native auto framerate detection and the support of 3D frame packed (ISO, MKV-MVC) yet.
On facebook it is told that Android platforms are not able….cannot believe that for a brandnew “next generation computing device” with the focus on video playback.
My older Mede8ter X6003D is doing that exellently with far less power….what is true now???

  2. Your test is flawed, as the Minix Neo X8-H does not output 4K, it only decodes 4K. Minix’s claim is still correct, that they have a version that decodes 4K, but I have no idea what you are trying to prove with your wacky ass test.

Hi ned, nice to meet you here. i just want to point out, minix have fixed this screen problem in xbmc. because i test in other amlogic s802 tv box, they will have the problem in my first photos, but minix fix it, so i think it is cool.

  4. Hey Eric, will this work on the Tronsmart Vega too?

  5. Funny the people trashing the Minix who don’t even own it. As for the Mede8ter, it has plenty of negative reviews.

Probably competitors trying to trash the Minix.

  6. @TC: The only restriction for the MED is that it does not offer an Android platform and XBMC due to the SoC. However, it is still very powerful without any big flaws. Amazon reviews are most of the time hollow words and even there it still has more positive critics.
Nevertheless, I really test those devices and see the potential of Android settop boxes.
    My X8h arrived today but the missing 1080 24p is a no-go!
Moreover, the new Minix-XBMC ist restricting the Audio channel output to 2.0. The stock version had now restrictions. Please check.

  7. Hi Eric,

Can Minix Xbmc or the 4K player support DTS with high bitrate & BD ISO files?

  8. @Jeffs: The X8s neither supports Audio-HD-Passthrough (DTS HD MA, Dolby True HD => max. DTS/DD or Downmix) nor 24p + autoframerate. 3D support ist also not an issue at the moment.Quite poor in my opinion but again all is excuded by the SoC (AMLOgic now) though Minix switched from RK to S802…???
