How to flash stock firmware on M8 Amlogic S802 quad core tv box?

Here is the instruction for how to flash the stock firmware on M8 Amlogic S802 tv box:

Because there is no OTG port on M8, so you can’t connect your M8 with PC and use usb burning tools to flash. You have to use SD Card to flash the stock firmware.

Here is the step by step instruction:

1 Download the firmware from our blog, usually you will get the following files:

<br/><a href="http://oi57.tinypic.com/e7kwm1.jpg" target="_blank">View Raw Image</a>

2 Prepare a SD card, and format the card, copy the three – Make sure your  device is powered off and power cable removed.
3 Insert SD card with extracted files in root directory.
4  Insert a match or a toothpick to reset button – you will feel a click. (the reset button is in the AV hole in the back)
5 Power on the M8 tv box by inserting power cable, while holding the match in the reset hole.
6 It will boot to recovery and start installing ROM. Good. It will restart when finished (you can connect with HDMI cable, so you can see the update process in your tv or monitor)download file to this sd card.

I am still working on how to flash the M8 box via PC, when i get answer, i will update the post here.

Enjoy, any questions, feel free to contact me.

Eric

  1. I Have a M8 tv box.

Dou you have an image of the linux to be loaded into the M8 tv box?
Do you have a linux working in the M8?

    Linux
It is possible to get an working image with Linux instead of android?

  5. Any way to get rid of the Home menu splash on XBMC? Also, can booting to google instead of the basic menu be stopped?

  6. For the files on the SD card:
Do I unzip the k200-ota-20140516.zip and place the extracted folder in the sd card,
    or leave it zipped?

  7. If by”booting to google” you mean the stock home screen launcher, then yes. Install Nova Launcher from Google play store. When you press the home key it will ask which launcher to use “always” or “just once”. Choose “always” and it will launch by default, instead of the Mbox launcher.

  8. Splash Screen:
    http://cybernetnews.com/xbmc-advanced-settings/

This is a simple setting that disables the splash screen when XBMC is starting up. It’s something a lot of people probably won’t care about changing, but since it is available I thought it wouldn’t hurt to turn it off:

    false

  9. It seems to have the same hardware, so I would say yes.

  17. Jarrett Brunsvold
