This method is tested and working with Intel’s USB3.0 controller under Windows 8.1 x64.
1. Download Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver_MOD.zip and extract it.
2. Reboot windows with driver signature disabled: configure->change pc settings-> update & recovery -> recovery-> advanced startup -> troubleshoot -> advanced options -> restart -> 7
3. Open Windows Device Manager, Go to Universal Serial busses at the end and double click “Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible controller”. Click on Drivers in the New window which opens.
4. Now click “Update Driver” and then select “Browse my computer for driver software”. Next choose “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer” and select “Have Disk”.
5. In the Window that pops up titled “Install From Disk” choose “Browse” and navigate to location “Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver_MOD\Drivers\Win7\x64″. Select “iusb3xhc.inf” and click ok. Ignore all warnings and install the drivers.
6. After installing, Reboot the computer with the same procedure as Step 2.
7. Open Windows Device Manager again, you should see an Unknown device.
8. Right Click on it and choose “Update Driver” then click “Browse my computer” and then “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer”, scroll down and select “Universal Serial Bus Devices”.
9. Click next, choose “Have Disk”, “Browse” and select the “iusb3hub.inf”. Ignore all warnings and install the drivers.
10. Reboot your PC as normal.
11. Install Rockchip Drivers if you haven’t. (password:geekbuying.com)
It sounds like the above is specific to some Interl USB controller issue, so my reply may not be very applicable, although my system has Intel USB controller and is running 64-bit Windows 8.1.
In my case, I to do the following after installing Rockchip USB driver.
In addition to installing the driver, you may also need to add USB vendor ID and product ID into C:\Users\[user name]\.andriod\adb_usb.ini in order for adb to recognize the driver. Here is what mine now looks like:
# ANDROID 3RD PARTY USB VENDOR ID LIST — DO NOT EDIT.
# USE ‘android update adb’ TO GENERATE.
# 1 USB VENDOR ID PER LINE.
0x2207; 0x0010
0x2207 is the vendor ID of Rockchip, 0x0010 is the product ID.
Once this is done, it worked great. Note that adb access is available even USB mass storage is turned on.
For reference, my system is Lenovo Yoga running 64-bit Windows 8.1. I also tested on a Dell running 32-bit Windows 7.

don’t do this on a surface pro 2 like I did, luckily Windows 8 is so, so spot on with system restore that everything was returned to normal.
Basically no touchscreen or keyboard use instantly after step 5!
Followed all the steps and still windows 8.1 either says it is not compatible, or that it already has the latest driver…thinking of binning my stick as it is IMPOSSIBLE to load the latest firmware on it, and it keeps closing down programs (5 times an hour), or just won’t load them..I have also spent 3 days on the internet trying to find a solution.It is a complete waste of my life!
Lesson learned, only buy Android TV sticks/boxes with OTA updates!
