How to root K-R42 Quad Core Google Android TV BOX?

Make sure USB Debugging is enabled on your K-R42(Settings -> Developer Options)

Connect your K-R42 to a Windows PC via the mini USB port. (now only support rooted via Windows PC, no linux or Mac)

Your PC should detect a new device, and try to install the driver. You can download the driver http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?yqxz3wnqi2hpmcm

After having installed the driver, download RK3188_ROOT.rar , and extract the files.

Click “ TPSparkyRoot.bat” and follow the instructions. After 2 reboot, your device should be rooted.

Folder RK3188_ROOT.rar – is error. (in extract the file folder is empty).
Please change other file to link http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?k7b3yspwbesin3w

Please fix the rar password , it is incorrect. I’ve tried 10 times , copy/paste the and manually typed in , still says incorrect password.

Please Eric , try yourself. It ask for password for the file “RK3188_ROOT” and “geekbuying.com doesn’t work. I cannot proceed with the extracting without filling the password.

message – “Corrupt file or wrong password”

Please tell us that 1080p ROM is coming for this great device ruined by poor firmware. Pleas please please ! 🙂

Anton, you have to use the password with capital letters: “GEEKBUYING.COM” !
I also hope for Linux and Finless 1080p ROM :-)) soon.

I tried connecting my K-R42 to computer and it is not recognizing. I enabled USB debugging in developer option setting. Please guide me here to connect my device to PC and Root it.

YOu should put the recovery button on the back of K-r42 when you connect with your PC.

Hi. I’m trying to root my K-R42 but I can’t. Windows doesn’t recognizes the device.
I’ve downloaded the drivers and I tried to install them in devices manager.

But when I try to update the drivers with the new (selecting the folder where are located) windows tells me that it can’t be done.

What can I do?

I successfully put the firmware from this post on my CS 918. Thx. However, I am unable to root it. Help.
Everything works from the firmware update…720p for sure. all of the free Chinese TV and stuff on my rom is gone. Thx.

I try to root the box, but I’ve always get the message “error: device not found” in the dos-box. I’ve installed the usb-driver and the box is shown as “Rockusb Device” in the removeable device list. What do I wrong?

Hi Eric,

I think I have installed the driver correctly. I run Windows 7. When I plug the device in while holding down the recovery button the windows ‘device manager’ shows:
class for rocksub device
rockusb device
after that I run ‘TPSparkyRoot.bat’ only to find out that the device can not be found.

When I plug the device in without holding down the recovery button the windows ‘device manager’ says:
other device
rk31sdk

I think the error about device can not be found is caused by driver, you can un-install the drivers, and try to install it again. you can download the http://www.moborobo.com/ to install the driver directly.

Installing moborobo did the trick for me by recognizing my device and automatically installing the correct drivers. Device manager now see it as: “Android Phone”. After that TPSparkyRoot.bat did run and completed. For clarities sake: you don’t need to press the recovery button under the device when hooking up.

Hi!

I have done everything as mentioned, typed the GEEKBUYING.COM password, once it starts it says I have to press the space bar after the device has rebooted, but it is not going to reboot at all.
Please help.
I want to complete the rooting.

Moborobo fixed my issue with adb not being able to see it. Had issues with it installing supersu though. I had to install it manually, then copy the apk to the \system\app folder and then run the bat file again.
