New progress on GK802 Mini PC Ubuntu 11.10 with 2D/3D and Video Hardware Acceleration

GK802, the only quad core mini pc in market till now, with freescale imx-6 CPU.  Since they factory release the last Ubuntu update on this GK802, it has passed long time, we have tried to contact with the factory and release the new upgrade, but the chinese new year make this progress slow.

However, today, in the help of Jasbir, Dmitriy (rz2k) and James and other developer, the GK802 got new update:

Here’s a summary of the current status:

  1. Wifi working.
  2. External SD working
  3. Matched IOMUX configuration to align with the Android image.
  4. Stripped out unnecessary device initialisation from the original HDMI dongle source.
  5. Enabled EGL and GLES HW Acceleration in Ubuntu.
  6. Unity desktop might be partially HW accelerated (TBC)

Jasbir upload an youtube video to show the progess, you can find it here

The changes have not been released to the kernel tree just yet, but this will probably be done later this week. Jasbir explains there’s still more work to handle power management due to the lack of PMIC on the device. Once further progress has been done an image will certainly be released on imx6-dongle mailing list, Jasbir’s blog and this blog.

We will also try my best to go to factory in this week, and push them to check how they can did. and from the news i get, freescale is also working on the android 4.2 upgrade, seems the wifi hasn’t got working well on android 4.2, if i can get some video or photo for the new upgrade, i will upload to the blog.
