Yesterday,Qualcomm official released the next generation fast charging technology:Quick Charge 3.0.
Tronsmart, as the leading brand in the quick charge area, we are very happy to see the new standard coming, and we are also excited to release our first Quick Charge 3.0 Wall Charger, photos are below:
Actually, we just use the same design as our popular WC1Q, but change the PCBA inside. The new quick charge 3.0 model is WC1T.
So for the customers, What’s the real meaning of Quick Charge 3.0? What’s the biggest difference between QC2.0 and QC3.0; We will try our best to give the answer:
First , The WC1T Quick charge 3.0 chargers still use 18W solution for smartphone and tablet, it is the same as Quick Charge 2.0, but why will it faster than QC2.0?
In Qualcomm official site, they claim Quick charge 3.0 is 38 percent more efficient than Quick charge 2.0. This is the most important part in QC3.0, the higher efficient means in same watt, means you get faster charger in same time, means you get less heat when charging, means much safety for your smartphone battery.
Now let’s check why QC3.0 is much more efficient than QC2.0?
The reason is INOV technology (Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage) in Quick Charge 3.0 . In QC2.0 standard, The charger output should be 5V/2A, 9V/2A, 12V/1.67A, while QC3.0 offers a more granular range of voltages: 200mV increments, from 3.6V to 20V.
For example, When we charge our Nexus 6 battery from 0%, in QC2.0 chargers, It will directly give the nexus 6 9V/2A (18w) output at first, and when the battery is charing, the output should change to 5V/2A (10W) directly.
But in QC3.0, It will give 9V/2A(18W) at first, and as the battery is growing, the output volt should change to 8.8v, 8.6v，8.4v …7.2v… and in the end 5v etc, and during the voltage is changing, the current is also changing,(2A to 3A) . It means, the charger will always give your phone the biggest watt they need. and in our testing, the 7.2V/2.5A is the best efficient charging voltage and current, if your device keep in this voltage current for most of the time, then the charging speed is fastest.
So the next question, Should i need special charging cables for QC3.0 charger?
The answer is Yes. From the above analysis, we can see in QC2.0, the max charging current is just 2A, however in QC3.0, the charging current can reach 3A or more, your charging cable should be able to handle this HIGH current.
