Electric Scooter Throttle Freezes or Sticks

Problem description

The throttle button does not respond or rebound, and cannot be operated normally.

Causes and solutions

The throttle screw is too tight, and there is interference inside the throttle.

Press the throttle to the bottom and then slowly release it to check whether the throttle rebounds smoothly. Alternatively, you can try to loosen the throttle fixing screw a circle and then try to see if the throttle rebounds smoothly.

If the throttle is still stuck after trying the above methods, you need to replace it with a new one.

Bent, irregular or dirty handlebars

A test is to remove the throttle from the handlebars and see if it sticks when it is not mounted on the handlebars.

If the throttle sticks only when it is mounted on the handlebars, a bent, irregular, rusty or dirty handlebar can cause the throttle to stick.

Burrs on the handlebars from previously installing another throttle can also cause the throttle to stick. You can thoroughly clean and dry the handlebars, remove any burrs on the handlebars, and then reinstall the throttle.

If the throttle still sticks after doing this, you will need to replace the handlebars to resolve the problem.

Handlebar and throttle friction

A missing throttle washer may cause this to happen.

The throttle washer is the part that prevents the handlebar grip from rubbing against the throttle grip.

The way to test this is to move the handlebar grip outward so it is not touching the throttle grip.

If the throttle only sticks when the handlebar grip touches the throttle grip, a missing or damaged throttle washer is causing the throttle to stick.
